Clean energy, also known as green energy, refers to the energy that does not emit pollutants and can be directly used for production and life.

Clean energy can be divided into two concepts, narrow and broad, narrow clean energy only refers to renewable energy, such as water energy, biological energy, solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy and ocean energy; The broad sense of clean energy includes in the production of energy, and its consumption process, the selection of low pollution to the ecological environment or pollution-free energy, in addition to the above renewable resources, but also includes non-renewable resources, such as nuclear energy, natural gas, clean coal and so on.

In the traditional sense, clean energy refers to environmentally friendly energy, meaning environmental protection, less emissions, and less pollution. However, this concept is not accurate enough, and it is easy for people to mistake it for the classification of energy and think that energy has clean and unclean points, thus misunderstanding the original meaning of clean energy .

The precise definition of clean energy should be: the technical system of clean, efficient and systematic application of energy. There are three meanings: first, clean energy is not a simple classification of energy, but refers to the technical system of energy utilization; Second, clean energy emphasizes not only cleanliness but also economy; Third, the cleanliness of clean energy means that it meets certain emission standards.

Renewable energy refers to energy sources that can be renewable from raw materials, such as hydropower, wind power, solar energy, bioenergy (biogas), geothermal energy (including ground sources and water sources) and tidal energy. Renewable energy does not exist the possibility of energy exhaustion, therefore, the development and utilization of renewable energy is increasingly valued by many countries, especially countries with energy shortages.

The results of the current whole-life assessment (LCA) of the comprehensive utilization of solar energy show that the use of solar photovoltaic conversion in the past, because of the dependence on solar panels in the production process of high pollution, high energy consumption materials, so the use of costs and environmental costs are high. The current research on thermoelectricity is in the direction of solar thermal utilization.
